It’s not only our best artists who are leading the invasion. Some of our best business talent is an integral part of an invasion that threatens to snowball into an industry within an industry. Trail blazers like David Miller, who started life as a marketing consultant at Drum Media offering his services to BMG, Sony and Atlantic and is now VP worldwide for Atlantic Records! En route to his current status Mr Miller was head of Marketing for BMG before being head hunted to run Mariah Carey’s business empire. David Miller is no longer a lone ranger in the U.S. business world.

 

Hattie Collins is currently chillaxing in America whilst she edits RWD magazine from a swanky pad in The Big Apple. And a short while ago a small contingent of the British in-crowd (led by Toussaint Davy – ex Tense Magazine) landed in New York for a weekend hang out that was clearly used as an opportunity to see whaa gwaan out there.

 

A few weeks back DJ Dodge shipped his whole studio over to LA and hopes to make the same kind of impression as a producer that DaVinChe, Harmony and JD have been quietly making. But, possibly the most significant proof of the progress being made by the UK’s finest is Sway’s recent BET award success for Best International Rap Artist……. Big t’ings ah gwaan!

 

You might assume that I’m simply a journalist happily writing away about an army of British invaders doing their thing and that I have no ambition to join them……But guess what - nothing could be further from the truth! My passport has been renewed, my visa is in order, my ticket is booked and I have a hard-drive packed full with an arsenal of ideas to rain down on New York, Miami, and L.A.
