Charge #4: Even the Metropolitan Police and Ofcom have beef with Channel U

Darren Platt for the defence: "In the past 18 months, Channel U has gone to great lengths to tighten up its procedures for choosing videos and ensure that all videos comply with broadcasting standards. In fact, some songs which are considered Channel U classics are no longer able to be played on the channel. There are even BACC-approved adverts containing violence which the Channel refuses to play but can be seen on other music channels.

As a high profile urban channel, it is easy to make Channel U a scapegoat. In order to clear up any misconceptions, Channel U invited Leroy Logan, the superintendent for Hackney Police, to its offices to take a look at the channel’s broadcasting compliance procedures. He went away very satisfied and praised the channel after seeing how everything worked and how videos were chosen and accepted."

Charge #5: Channel U is on the back-foot and fears that other similar channels will take Channel U’s market share

Darren Platt for the defence: "Despite being the only player in the market for 4 years, Channel U has struggled to make money. The channel operates within a niche market and traditional advertising revenues are hard to come by. Any other channel that comes in has to be aware of the challenges of that particular market and realise that its not as easy as it looks. I say good luck to them!"

So there you go! I lay the evidence before you, and ask you, the jury, to draw your own conclusion.
